PIPL CNBI 001.1: Discovery Date: 05.11.2008 (with four eggs) Notes: “Sharpie and Sally” 100 yards north of former vehicle barrier. Established a nesting pair back in April, it is thought that the male (sharpie) is a returning plover. He was first seen in his territory on March 31. The female joined him a week or so later. They were very good about hiding their nest. It was found with FOUR eggs. Although we did not find it until May 11, we knew it was in the area because the plovers displayed a "Broken Wing Display” whenever we were close to discovering the nest. The displaying started on May 6th, which is why we are calling that our fourth egg day. First Egg: UNKNOWN Third Egg: UNKNOWN Second Egg: UNKNOWN Fourth Egg: 05.06.2008 (on or before) Est. Hatch Date: Fledge Date: Egg Loss/Predation Date: 05.18.2008 Predation: Unknown/ Assumed Predation Notes: Bowl empty. PIPLS remained in area. Thought that our symbolic fencing may have tipped off the predators. We lost the nest a few days after it was erected it.

PIPL CNBI 003.1: Discovery Date: 05.07.2008 (with one egg) Notes: “Seal Flag Couple” Approximately 200 yards south of the NEW vehicle barrier. Close to the high dune line, well above the high tide line. The nest pair was first noticed on April 26th. The couple was seen together and several scrapes were noticed. (Found before S. Melvin visit) First Egg: 05.07.2008 Third Egg Second Egg: Fourth Egg: Est. Hatch Date: Fledge Date: Egg Loss/Predation Date: 05.11.2008 Predation: Assumed Predation Notes: Bowl found intact. A storm with high winds made it so we were not able to revisit the island since the day of discovery. The area was somewhat washed over, but it seemed the area the nest was last seen was not washed out. However, no egg was found. Male and female were seen. Both were tending to scraping out a nest. When we checked the area an hour later, the female seemed as if she could have been incubating an egg.
